Reflection paper and letter to next year's Germany delegates from Mr. Marsden's student, C. Whitehouse.

Reflection Paper on CWHP

The CHWP experience for me was an overall success and I was very impressed. It was a beneficial experience through which I was able to gain a great amount of knowledge. During the processes I learned a lot, not only about Germany, but also the world, other countries, how to communicate tactfully, and how to go about being diplomatic.

The CWHP program was a long simulation with many different parts and things to discover. The transformation of our class from a regular world history class into team Germany took a long time and wasn’t always easy, going through many exercises, presentations, conferences, papers, and homework. The process started at the CI units. These were important because through these I was able to gain a basic knowledge on the history of Germany and how it would affect us at the forum. The press conferences gave a preview of what it would be like to do the conferences, and respectively the Global Forum. The press conferences were very entertaining, and got me very excited to be participating as Germany. It was easy to get involved and enjoyable to do. The TEC simulation was also very engaging, because it gave me a chance to understand the unjustified nature of the Treaty of Versailles to Germany. The position paper helped me put my ideas into order on what I wanted to achieve in my topic group at the Global Forum. This for me started the real start of the negotiation of the topics, because it allowed me to see where the other countries stood in their beliefs. The opening statement was also a very important matter in this area. The email messaging wasn’t easy. Some of the countries had hard questions that my group didn’t always know the answer to. This encouraged me to do even more research and study of Germany and my topic of world health. The emails allowed me to communicate more freely with the other countries and make compromises and alliances with them. The after school conferences helped a lot to make my group known. We represented ourselves well in the conferences to the other countries on our topic, without offending anyone and effectively answering their questions to us, which there were a lot of. The proposal allowed me to present a hard copy of my groups beliefs on the matter of world health. This helped us to make a good name with the other countries, and urge them to come together with us in the fight for world health. I was very proud when my groups proposal was chosen to go to the Global forum and be discussed, I can only hope that we will get the highest amount of votes. Which brings me to the Global Forum. The Global Forum was overall a great experience. It really helped me to decide on the countries that I wanted to support, and gave my group a great opportunity to prove ourselves and represent our country in a diplomatic manner. By the end of the day, my views on which countries we wanted to ally with had drastically made a U-turn. I learned how important it really is to represent yourself proficiently, because just one day can change everybody’s mind. I was very happy when my groups proposal ended up with the most sponsors in our topic group at the end of the forum. This was a great achievement to us, and I can only wish that we will still be a leader in our topic at the end of the simulation.

I would advise next years Germany to be prepared. I went into this simulation expecting something totally different that how it turned out to be. It’s a great experience, and I would encourage everybody to participate, and not to sit on the sidelines. The simulation taught me a lot, and it was an awesome experience. My advice is, that if this great chance is presented to you, take it!

. . . overall the CWHP simulation was an awesome experience.
