CWHP Testimonials

Letter from Mr. Marsden's student, N. Patterson, to next year's Germany delegates.

CWHP Reflection Paper

The Contemporary World History Project was certainly something new for me and brought about new horizons and challenges this year that developed and fined tuned almost all of my strong areas and qualities and also created new talents and skills. CWHP was defiantly beneficial to me.  With this class being a world history course and CWHP relating to current world issues I don’t think that it could have worked out any better.  The most beneficial part of CWHP was learning not just about history, but what is happening now in our world, what people are facing, and what things are being done to help and solve these issues.

When I first started C.I. and CWHP I did not think that it would work and I surely was not enthusiastic about the whole Germany situation and Global Forum; but I was proved otherwise.  I don’t think that I could have had a better group for my issue or even a better class for the whole project.  My favorite parts of CWHP were the online conferences and of course the Global Forum.  Most high school students don’t get a chance to chat online with other students in a diplomatic matter talking about world issues, so I think we really were blessed with the opportunity to be able to participate in such an event/project.  Chatting and speaking with these students really helped me develop a business-oriented type of lingo, which will only help me in the future.  The Global Forum was also a great experience.  I really enjoyed defending Germany and reiterating our stands and positions on certain issues.

            For next year’s Germany.-

The key is to stay on top of your work.  Don’t get behind- and even when assignments don’t make sense or seem to have no immediate relevance to your current study, don’t blow it off. All of the work, presentations, projects, current events, and after-school conferences are to prepare you for the Global Forum, and even on a higher note- prepare you for the work arena.  I know especially in the beginning, you all will dread having to give weekly presentations, and most of you will be nervous, but keep in mind it gets easier as you go along.  All of the presentations I did helped me develop all kinds of different presentation and public speaking skills, which has also helped me in other classes.

I think that this year has been another good year, full of new and exciting accomplishments, and this project has really helped me and brought out some of my skills and even developed new ones.  I really do believe that the skills and knowledge that I have acquired over these last few months will carry on with me for a lifetime and just keep getting better.  I’m honored to have had the opportunity to participate in this project and certainly would do it again.

            -Mr. Marsden,

-I’m sure you’re going to want to quote these papers, for next years students so if it’s needed, you have my permission to quote my paper.

                                                       N. Patterson
